We’ve got it pretty good here in the US of A. I’ve got it pretty good here in my safe, warm house. Still, occasionally we whine about something or another that really doesn’t amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world…

I know that everything is relative.

Sometimes, I really think we need a reality check.

I’ve heard some people complain that they are persecuted at their job for being a Christian. Wow. Really? Yes, it seems that someone complained about a comment they made and now they feel left out in the office chatter. Persecuted? Really? I have a few Chinese believers that you could e-mail. I dare you to complain to them…

Ah, but it’s personal too. When someone hurts my feelings, you can usually find me blowing up balloons for my own pity party. Except if I also managed to ruin dinner that night as well. Then you can find me wallowing in a pile of tears on my kitchen floor telling God that “it’s not fair!” It must be the end of the world. Really?

Perspective. I need it. You need it. We all need it. Look at how David talked with God about his disappointment with people:

Psalm 109: 4 For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.

We’re talking about people who tried to kill him, not people who hurt his feelings or people who were mean to him. How did he react? He prayed. He “gave himself unto prayer.”

Yep. That’s a better plan. Let’s go with that.

Lord, give us YOUR perspective to see beyond ourselves!
